Install - Excel 2007 & 2010

Windows Installation:

Version: 2.1.6.0 RC2

Both of these versions will work in either Excel 2007 or Excel 2010, although additional .NET libraries may have to be installed on your machine. If possible, use the compilation designed for the version of Excel you use.

If you used the previous version of Excel Render (Excel VBA), we suggest you uninstall this first by following these instructions: Uninstall Excel VBA.

Toolbar

Prerequisites

  • You must have .NET Programmability Support installed for Excel. If in doubt, see Troubleshooting.

Excel 2007

Follow these installation steps for Excel 2007:

  • Click this link: Download »
    • then either
      • click 'Save' and select a destination for ExcelRender2007.zip
      • find the saved file and extract (uncompress) the contents
      • open the directory
    • or
      • click 'Open', which should immediately open the compressed folder
  • Run "setup.exe" and click 'Run':
  • Open Excel and look for the 'CodeCogs' ribbon
  • For optimal speed, configure your network settings (see below)
  • and Enjoy

Excel 2010

Follow these installation steps for Excel 2010:

  • Just click this link: Single Click Install »
  • and watch:
  • Open Excel and look for the 'CodeCogs' ribbon
  • For optimal speed, configure your network settings (see below)
  • and Enjoy
Warning: All legitimate software from CodeCogs is signed with a digital certificate issued to Zyba Ltd by Comodo. Do not install any software that doesn't have a valid certificate.

Proxy Configuration

To create Gif and Emf images of Excel Formulas, you need to be connected to the Internet.

Excel Render will try to automatically find an external connection to the Internet. However, for better speed, we recommend you configure the settings to your particular situation.

  • Open Network Settings by clicking on network, which will appear on the toolbar in the bottom right of the panel if there is no network connection. Alternatively look for 'Network' in the new menu called 'CodeCogs'.
  • The default is 'Use IE proxy settings', which typically finds a connection - this leads to slower connection performance - so should be avoided if necessary.
  • If you are connected directly to the Internet, then the fastest connection is 'No Proxy'.
  • If you are within a company and you know the name of the 'Proxy server' (ask IT), then 'Manual proxy setting' is best.
  • If your corporate network is configured correctly, then 'Use proxy auto-detection (WPAD Protocol)'. This should automatically find a PAC file with proxy settings for your location.
  • If you are routinely moving about, perhaps on a laptop, then your systems administrator may be able to provide you the details of a PAC file.

Troubleshooting

Add-in installs but does not appear when Excel starts

Please ensure the following are installed:

  • Excel .NET Programmability Support must be installed. (If during installation of Excel you deselected this option or you installed Excel before any of the .NET Frameworks, then follow these steps):
    • Open the Control Panel (Windows Start - Control Panel)
      • If you are in 'Category' view, select 'Programs'
    • Select 'Programs and Features'
    • Find 'Microsoft Office 2007' or 'Microsoft Office 2010'
    • Right click and select 'Change'
    • Select 'Add or Remove Features':
    • Select the .NET Programmability Support, and enable 'Run from My Computer':
  • Excel Render (2007) requires "Microsoft Compact .NET Framework 3.5" (or later). If you have Windows 7 with only .NET 4.0, then you may have to manually install from: Install Microsoft .NET 3.5. Excel Render (2010) is compiled to work with .NET 4.0.

Installer does not work

If you are unable to complete the installation:

  • IE8 or IE9: When you download this tool using IE8 or IE9, it will notify you that "This program is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer". We are in the process of gaining official certification for this tool from Microsoft, so in the mean time please ignore this warning.
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7: After the tool is installed, Windows may displayed a dialog saying "This program might not have installed correctly". This is a known bug with Windows installer and can be ignored.
